Top Golf is Coming to Cranston

CRANSTON, RHODE ISLAND – Carpionato Group, based in and committed to Rhode Island, today celebrated the Phase I start of site work construction that will culminate in a new multi-level 68,000 square foot Top Golf sports and golf entertainment facility located at 100 Sockanosset Cross Road. This project combined with Carpionato’s redevelopment of the former Citizens Bank building, will be a major economic contributor to the local economy, creating new jobs and providing hundreds of thousands of dollars yearly in taxes to the City of Cranston.

“Top Golf will be an economic driver for Cranston and Rhode Island,” said K. MacArthur Coates, President & CEO of Carpionato Group. “We have spent a lot of time carefully curating the right mix for the redevelopment of 100 Sockanosset Cross Road to ensure not only its best use, but to make sure it fits with our Chapel View, as well as Garden City Center. Top Golf brings an unparalleled brand of fun recognized instantly by golf enthusiasts, meeting planners and those who are seeking unique entertainment experiences.”

As part of the 100 Sockanosset project, Carpionato Group also worked closely with the RI Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration and the City of Cranston for the reconstruction of the eastern section of Route 37, which included a frontage road from Route 37 at Pontiac Avenue.

“The start of construction on Top Golf in Cranston shows that Rhode Island is an attractive place to do business and is yet another example of the economic momentum we are seeing in the state,” said Governor Dan McKee. “I thank the Carpionato Group for their work in bringing Top Golf to Rhode Island, as well as their partnership with the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) to reconfigure Route 37 and make significant infrastructure investments, which is a prime example of the positive benefits we see when developers and the state work together.

“I’d also like to thank Mayor Hopkins for his leadership on this project as both a City Councilor and Mayor and congratulate him and the entire City of Cranston on the start of this project. I’m very excited to see construction progress and begin bringing millions in revenue to our local economy.”

The 100 Sockanosset project also required extensive review and permitting by the City of Cranston and Coates noted Cranston Mayor Ken Hopkins played a pivotal role in that process while on the City Council and as Mayor.

“This destination facility will bring families and visitors to the City of Cranston. I have been working on this project since my time on the City Council, and I know that Top Golf will be an outstanding attraction in our City. Cranston continues to see great interest from businesses and industries who want to develop due to our economic climate, sound infrastructure, and our stable workforce,” said Mayor Ken Hopkins.

The 100 Sockanosset property was acquired by Carpionato Group in the 1997 as part of the late Alfred Carpionato’s vision to create a work-live-play environment along Sockanosset Cross Road

“My husband always knew that Cranston was Rhode Island’s premier destination for shopping, dining, entertainment and living,” said Sheryl Carpionato, a trustee of Carpionato Group. “His foresight to curate this generational lifestyle center started decades ago and it is with great pride to witness another phase of this development come to fruition.”

Since 2020, Carpionato Group has leased approximately 355,000 square feet of office, retail and residential space, while the company’s Green Construction unit has managed 530,000sf of new or rehab construction 2020 thru present.
