The Carpionato Group on Thursday helped cut the ribbon along with city officials in Warwick on the completion of the $25 million in renovations at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
The hotel which first opened in 1987, has 266 rooms -- and in 2018, the last year for full operation before the renovation began, booked 34,400 group room nights in addition to the 38,200 leisure room nights sold.
“We are so grateful for our friends who helped us survive during the pandemic including Senator Reed, Senator Whitehouse, Congressman Langevin and Congressman Cicilline who supported the creation of the Paycheck Protection Program that allowed us to keep many of our employees working during the downturn, to Warwick’s City Council, fire department, building inspector and public works departments that helped us with the permitting process during this renovation,” said K. MacArthur Coates, President and CEO of Carpionato Group, a Rhode Island-based property development company,
“All of these folks recognized that the Crowne Plaza is a major economic driver for both Warwick and Rhode Island, and they worked with us to ensure that once life began to return to normal that we would be ready to meet the expectations of business travelers and event organizers seeking a modern full-service hotel and convention space," he added.
Tourism Officials Praise Improvements
“The Crowne Plaza is a meeting, convention and sporting events hub for Rhode Island. Its size and the quality of the facilities fills an important niche for us, allowing us to book events that may be too small to need the Rhode Island Convention Center but too large to fit in most hotels,” said Kristen Adamo, President and CEO of the Providence Warwick Convention and Visitors Bureau.
“In 2018 and 2019, business booked at the Crowne by the PWCVB resulted in more than $10 million in direct spend impact for Rhode Island. We are grateful to have such a strong partnership with the hotel and are excited about the many new opportunities these extensive renovations will afford us," she added. "Together, we will bring even more lucrative business to the Ocean State. “
Today, more than 100 the hotel’s 230 employees have returned to work, with the rest expected to return as operations continue to increase.

Full renovation of four meeting rooms and all 266 guest rooms
Finishes are all modern and include a strong focus on technology and enhanced amenities
The Crowne Plaza Warwick occupies 18-acres of the Crossings Office Park complex, which also includes the U.S. headquarters of BD - a global medical technology company that is advancing the world of health by improving medical discovery, diagnostics and the delivery of care. Earlier this year, Ortho-RI opened a 100,000-square-foot, three-story medical office and surgery center on the complex.
