Ortho Rhode Island, Calspan and Carpionato Group broke ground this week on a new state-of-the art medical office and surgery center for Ortho Rhode Island at the Crossings Office Park in Warwick.
The site is also the home to the worldwide headquarters of the Davol division of BD – which has a 120,000 square foot biotechnology research and development facility located there as well.
“I am extremely pleased to see my husband, Alfred Carpionato’s vision for a bio-medical destination campus at the Crossings Office Park come to fruition,” said Sheryl Carpionato, a trustee of Carpionato Group. “My husband believed this site, at the intersection of Interstate highways, the airport and train station was a prime location for smart economic development, and we are confident this is just the beginning of an ever-expanding bio-medical campus in Warwick.”
“The Carpionato Group has been a very significant and successful part of our business community for decades, and I thank them for their continued investment in our City,” said Warwick Mayor Joseph J. Solomon. “I am very excited to see this project moving forward, not only for the City, but also for the legacy of Alfred Carpionato’s vision for a better community. It will bring good paying jobs to our City, will provide the cornerstone of this bio-medical destination campus and continue the momentum we’ve built to bring quality economic development projects to Warwick.”
Dr. Michael P. Bradley, President and CEO of Ortho RI said that “The support we have received from the City has made it very easy for us to make this significant investment in Warwick as we build this world-class, highly innovative and high-tech facility for the future.”
The project will create 125 construction jobs and bring more than 275 permanent bio-medical jobs to the site with a total annual payroll of $30,000,000. The new facility will add more than $25-million in assessed value to the City of Warwick tax rolls.
The project will be executed by Calspan Development & Construction. “We are thrilled to be able to provide a world-class facility to the world-class physicians and medical professionals at Ortho Rhode Island,” stated John Yurtchuk, President and Chief Executive Officer of Calspan Development & Construction.
The two-phase project begins with a 60,000 square foot building, and a second 40,000 square foot building will be built in the future.
